As a neurosurgeon I deal with patients with brain and spine problems. These include patients with brain tumours, brain haemorrhage, hydrocephalus, chiari malformations and facial pain. Spinal problems include patients with sciatica, back pain, spinal claudication, spinal stenosis, neck pain and arm pain especially brachalgia. I also deal with patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and ulna nerve compression. Over recent years neurosurgery has expanded exponentially and treatment are now also available for patients with cerebral palsy, with the insertion of intrathecal baclofen pumps, parkinsons disease and epilepsy.
Biography: Born in London, I was educated at Ilford County Grammar School for Boys and then at the Victoria University of Manchester. After gaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons England I trained in neurosurgery in Nottingham. This was followed by a fellowship at the Necker Hospital in Paris and then at the Montefiore Hospital in New York, USA. On returning from the New York I worked as a paediatric neurosurgical fellow at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford. I then took up post as a Consultant in Adult and Paediatric Neurosurgery at King's College Hospital and Guy's Hospital.
I currently run my practice form Kings College Hospital, Harley Street Clinic, Portland Hospital, Cromwell Hospital and London Bridge Hospital. My practice at Kings College Hospital is NHS and private. My Harley Street Clinic, Portland Hospital and London Bridge practice is private only.
I have an interest in both adult and paediatric patients, and operate as much on the head as on the spine. My expertise includes brain tumours, hydrocephalus, spinal tumours, spina bifida, sciatica and neck (cervical spine) problems, carpal tunnel syndrome , spasticity and some specific pain syndromes (facial, arm, leg, back).
